Humorous Marriage Tips - You Haven't Heard These Before... And They Work

oNever discuss sensitive subjects when you're hungry. On an empty stomach, we tend to be more irritable and cranky, compromising our ability to focus. If you need to discuss something serious with your mate, check his/her appetite first.
oEat marshmallows to improve communication. If you have a mouthful of marshmallows, the one thing you absolute cannot do is "talk." That's precisely the point. Communication is more about listening than talking.
oFamily gatherings can be danger zones. Make a list of what not to talk about at these events. Examples: Never use the word "older," as in "Aunt Mary is 'older' than Aunt Susan" or "For an 'older' man, Uncle Harold has a lot of hair." Also, never compare today with the "good ol' days."
oWhen there's a fork in the road... If there are two ways to interpret something your spouse said to you and one makes you unhappy or angry, pick the other one.
oHonor the "5-Second Delay." Wives, when you ask your husband a question such as "Where would you like to go to dinner?" or "What time do your football games come on TV?" or any other question for that matter, there's often dead silence after you pose the question. You wonder: Did he hear me? Should I repeat the question? Solution: After asking a question, countdown backwards and slowly to yourself 5-4-3-2-1. Then, and only then, should you repeat the question. Men just take a little longer to compute things.
oGive your husband a break! Women tend to be more sensitive than men. They over-analyze. Did he mean this or that, or something entirely different? Female inclination is to zoom in on the explanation that's most negative. Perception isn't always reality. Lighten up!
oLet him know that he's your hero. Generally speaking, household tasks that women consider ordinary to do, such as loading and unloading the dishwasher, folding laundry, wiping down countertops, vacuuming, etc., are quite extraordinary for men. On a point scale of 1 to 100, for a wife they are worth about 2 points. To a husband, each is worth about 99.9 points! Wives, find it in yourself to say "thank you," give him a big hug, tell him how much you appreciate what he did. You will get more in return than you ever imagined.
oMulti-task to "be together." Example: You're both exhausted and run down, and you have difficulty finding time to devote solely to each other. Take a nap together. Start snoozing while holding hands.
oTake a lesson from dogs. What happens when a dog spots you from about 10 feet away? He wags his tail. As you get closer his cute, little rear starts wiggling and his ears pop up. By the time you're right up to the dog, he's dancing and bursting with excitement. Dogs teach us to be lovable. We should all take a lesson from them. Be lovable to your spouse. Welcome your spouse with a big greeting upon arriving home after a hard day's work. Give him or her an unexpected hug, plant a surprise peck on the cheek, touch each other, hold hands, exchange eye winks. However you choose to do it: Hug and squeeze, aim to please.
oMimic your kids. Give yourselves a "time-out" when the "relationship" is misbehaving. Time-outs work equally well for adults. When the two of you are in the heat of a disagreement, one person needs to stay "stop." Set an alarm clock for 30 minutes. Go your separate ways. Cool off. Think about the problem. Re-focus. Regain your composure. When the alarm rings, sit down together and have a civil discussion, get to the root of the matter, find a resolution and move on.
oGive your spouse the last piece of pie. Think of a favorite dessert that everyone in your home loves. For example: Double-chocolate brownies. In most family households, family members hurry to get the last brownie left in the pan before anyone else can. Long-married couples report handling such "competition" another way. One spouse will say to the other "Honey, there's one brownie left. Would you like to split it with me?" or "Would you like the last brownie?" This is referred to as being "selfless" instead of "selfish." The wonderful thing about being selfless instead of selfish, is it's automatically reciprocated.
oForget the Norman Rockwell ideal. Scale down your expectations, and focus on what's right rather than what's wrong.
oAn occasional cocktail from time to time helps!

How to Shoot Video of Your Kids Sports Team So That Anyone Else Will Watch it!

Break out that video camera, there is a game this weekend!
1. You bought a video camera
2. You want to shoot sports of your kid
3. Here is how to do it right!
What a wonderful age of technology we live in. You can buy the greatest gadgets now days to record video and music and play them in all sorts of ways on other great technology gadgets from computers, DVD's, MP3 players, VCR's, and many more. It is all great stuff. But they all come with thick owners manuals that do not always get you going the right direction. You may eventually learn to use your great new camera for instance, but that does not mean you will necessarily take pictures that are worth looking at down the road. Rolling tape in your camera is one thing and creating video that is high quality and interesting is another thing. The goal of this product is to bring you up to speed with using your video camera (whatever format, and whatever brand) to get the best results for recording those precious moments of your kid's athletic achievements.
We as parents spend plenty of hours out on the field, court, pool, or track watching our kids take part in and compete in youth sports. If you have a video camera you are going to want to record some of these events for posterity and perhaps education. Following the simple steps in this guide will help you to capture them in the best possible fashion so that it is watch able but also usable down the road.
My video expertise stems from two decades as a network television cameraman and as a parent with several kids actively involved in youth sports. In my years of shooting video professionally I have been around the world and seen just about every type of news event. I also spent 15 years covering pro sports events for my employer. These were the best type of assignments as far as I was concerned. In my entire career the things I have enjoyed most is being able to go to places where the average person cannot. In sports that usually means being on the field, next to the court, in the press box, or in the pit. I have shot football games of all levels up to and including NFC and AFC championship games. Living in the Bay Area has allowed me to cover many baseball pennant races and several World Series. I was right behind home plate the night the earth shook in the 1989 World Series. Talk about a shock. I had to give up covering a World Series between the two Bay Area teams to go and cover a huge news event. Baseball seemed small for a while after the magnitude of the earthquake. The point in this is that I love sports, have been around sports my whole life and I know how to shoot video of sports. With that in mind I will do my best to give you advice on how to do the same.
Gear
Now whether you have the latest DV camera in your hands or an old VHS format camera there are basic things you will need to keep in mind if you are going to shoot sports. As we say in the video business your camera is only as good as the glass that you hang in front of it. The better the lens the better the results will be no matter what kind of recording format you use. Now you already have a camera in hand and may never have heard this particular bit of advice so it is too late to factor it into the equation. However if you have camera in hand and it has any limitations on what it can do due to the lens being less than wonderful there are things you can do to mitigate the situation. We will discuss those things in more detail later on.
The key factors before setting out on your game day video assignment are to make sure you know the operating functions of the gear, have a tape supply in hand (soon to be DVDs with the revolution in gear design that is taking place right now), and batteries fully charged. I know these may seem like the simply obvious things but even the pros have to constantly remind themselves to check and double check these items.
A little aside here about preparation. Over the many years of covering news I learned lots of little tips from other photographers in the field and applied them to my work regimen. In the early days of video we always had to carry around a portable hair dryer because the record decks would seize up if the moisture levels got to high. So in the winter time if you came in from the cold outside into a nice warm building the air would condense inside the machine and cause moisture build up. The warning light would come on and bang we were dead in the water. One of us would have to run to the car and get the hair dryer, fire it up and chase the water away from the record heads of the deck. It caused some very funny moments in public places I can assure you. (This by the way can still be a problem even today with electronics/VCRs/lenses. Too much moisture can cause havoc. So just remember a portable hair dryer can save your day)
Another thing I learned from others is the value of backup. A few years ago I was out on assignment and we had a young eager college intern along with us in the field. This young man wanted to learn all about what we did in our job. He was very interested in how to take pictures, unlike most of our interns who only wanted to become reporters or anchors. He asked many questions and after seeing that he was really paying attention I decided to take him under my wing and really fill him up with information. One tidbit that I shared with him was to always have an emergency stash of tape in his car when out on assignment. He didn't quite understand the importance of this at first since I had already drilled him about always bringing tape stock with him when going out on assignment. I filled him with stories of times when something or other happened and I'll be darned if you didn't need another tape and there under the seat of the car was that emergency spare. So anyway he went off to graduate from college and get a job in a small market TV station. He would send us progress reports from time to time, which I really enjoyed. Then lo and behold one day he sends me a letter telling me how he got into a jam one day on a story and needed that emergency tape. He had dutifully tucked one under the back seat and it was there to save the day. I hope that what you learn in this book will in some way keep you from having a video failure down the road. What I learned in my career is that video production is 80% of it is dealing with the curves and problems that are thrown at you and 20% talent. If you can learn to trouble shoot then you will always be successful.
My first suggestion for shooting your kids sports activities is to go watch TV. Yes sit down put your feet up and watch some sports on TV. Really watch how they make it interesting at the top level. Then watch the news and see how they cover the games from a news perspective. Don't pay attention to the content; just watch how it develops visually. Now of course you can never duplicate what the networks are doing with just your one camera. However if you can glean anything from watching it should be how they try to bring intimacy with the athletes out in the broadcast. All the new improvements in covering sports have to do with getting you the viewer as close to the athlete as they can. Bring you into their world. From cameras on wires overhead that swoop along the field to cameras in the net of a hockey game to cameras inside the cars at Daytona, it brings you into the game. Now you cannot stand on the pitchers mound at your kids' baseball game but you can learn some techniques that can make your baseball video more intimate and therefore more compelling to watch.
A side note here, if your task is to capture the whole game or sporting activity for review as a coaching tool you should focus mainly on getting a good high view and putting the camera on a tripod. Pan slowly to follow action and don't zoom in and out. My main goal here is not to teach you this skill since it is pretty darn basic. However if this is what you are doing you should do it right. Find the right framing to keep as much of the activity in the frame and follow it carefully. Some sports move quickly from one end to the other and you will have to be smooth. Resist the temptation to follow the ball on full zoom. You will lose. Those guys that shoot sports on TV are full on pros using much better gear than you will ever have at your disposal.
Now in order to get a good video of your child's game you need to find that emotion and excitement that exists in any game. Think of it as capturing a few of the things that occur and making those golden. Does the team do a pre game cheer? Get up close, stick your camera wither way up high over their heads looking down or get underneath looking up and shoot it in a way that takes the viewer where they can't go. Capture an at bat in baseball by taking a full pitch cycle in close-up of the pitcher, and then one of the catcher and then as close as you can of the hitter. Show their face if you can. If they get the big hit don't go crazy rushing to zoom out. Follow the runner down the line. It will be almost impossible to follow the ball so stay with the runner. Look for the angles that will give you these emotional shots.
Some sports are more of a challenge due to the size of the field and the amount of movement up and down the field. Take soccer of instance, if you follow the ball the camera is moving all over the place and the viewer gets queasy. To capture some good video of your kid playing you need to focus on specific shots and not try to follow the play. Look for moments such as throw ins, free kicks, kick offs when things are predictable and you can get closer to the action. Walk down the sideline and wait for the action to come to you. If you child is playing right forward then get ahead of the play and when you see the ball moving towards you then you can find you child and roll tape in anticipation of them playing the ball. Be sure to get some shots of the crowd cheering, the coach watching (not yelling I hope) the goalie waiting in anticipation.
Hold your shots steady for 6-10 seconds at a time. If you are taking a shot of someone watching the game actually count it out in your head (thousand one thousand two...) This will ensure that you get good solid shots and that you don't run on and on with the shot. Brace your arm against your chest for stability and use your other arm across your belly underneath to create a stabilizing platform. This is in lieu of a tripod of course. If you have a tripod it can always be a good thing to use if it does not get in the way.
Use creative angles as much as possible. Get down low and wait for the action to run by you. Don't pan with it but rather let the action race through the frame. At a swim meet get the camera down on the deck for more of a swimmers perspective of the action. Of course you may not want to stay there when the swimmers approach for a turn. Digital electronics do not like water inside them. I was getting the most awesome low angle shots of some open water ocean swimmers one time and the boat lurched on me and salt water sprayed over the camera. I had a cover on the camera but salt water seeped into the crannies and it caused us much grief getting it cleaned out so as to avoid damaging the electronics of the camera.

Say It With The Hershey's Kiss Wedding Favors

The Hershey's Kiss has become an all time favorite choice of many brides seeking the perfect favors for their wedding.
Bigger than a chocolate chip but smaller than a candy bar, this perfect little teardrop candy packs a big enough bite to put a smile on the faces of chocolate lovers from one end of the country to the other.
These sweet bite-sized kisses can be packaged in every creative way imaginable to make a perfect wedding favor for the guests to take home with them.
Since this sweet little piece of American culture hits the century mark this year why not double your reasons for celebrating?
Use some creativity with the packaging of these sweet morsels. Some very easy and stress-free ideas is to fill small organza bags, or favor boxes of which you can attach a personal note thanking your guests for sharing in your special day.
If you want to go beyond the norm of the favor boxes and bags you might consider mugs, large spoons, flute glasses, small glass bowls or jars, small baskets and so forth.
Once you've decided on the perfect package for these little darlings it's time to figure out how you want to "Say it with a Kiss," as Hershey's slogan has it.
The little plume that extends from the noggin of the Kiss can be customized with your own messages. You might mix and match some kisses that display your names or initials, wedding date, and others that say "Hugs & Kisses" or "Thank You."
Another way you can have your Kisses personalized is to have a small photo of yourselves placed right on the bottom foil of the Kiss. Some wedding favor companies will offer this service. This is always a big hit with the wedding guests.
A sweet simple idea is to fill spoons with Hershey's Kisses and wrap tulle around the head of the spoon to hold the Kisses. Tie a ribbon around the tulle to complete the look and attach a little note that might say, "The sweetest kiss never tasted will be forever wasted" or "Taste your first kiss for a moment of bliss and a lifetime of happiness"
Place some kisses in a mug or small basket with a note saying, "Hugs and Kisses from the newly wed Mr. and Mrs."
Everyone loves something sweet especially if it's Hershey's chocolate kisses!
Many couples love the idea of using Hershey's Kisses for wedding favors because of the simplicity and versatility in which they can be distributed to the guests.
Remember to give yourself plenty of time when making your own favors so you will not feel rushed. Relax and have fun coming up with the perfect way to say it with these kisses and make your day a memorable event.

Using Pictures to Teach Narrative Writing with Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry

Subject: Sixth Grade Language Arts - Segregation and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
Time allotted: 90 minutes
Organization: large group
Objective: Students will demonstrate the understanding of the components in a narrative by using pictures about segregation to write the narrative.
Student worksheet available at http://www.trinaallen.com/rollofthunderstudent.html
Teaching Mode: Direct
Provision for Individual Differences: Students are heterogeneously mixed. The combination of modeling by the teacher and students will help to meet the needs of the varying abilities in the classroom. This assignment is open-ended enough for all students to find success "where they are" (Gardner, 2004).
Teaching Strategies: Some lecture, dialogue, modeling, discussion, group critique, planning.
Teaching Behavior focus: Focus will be as facilitator. Students will direct the lesson by creating the model used to demonstrate narrative writing.
Materials needed for this lesson:
oOne copy of a picture depicting segregation for each student-- ideally with larger copies available for fine details.
oPaper- pencil
ooverhead, board and markers, or chalk
oGeneral classroom supplies
Lesson Activities:
Step 1. Anticipatory Set: (Motivation)
oAs review, ask students to write a definition of segregation. Volunteers will state their definitions. Write the definition on the board for students to refer to as they write their narratives. (Students should have read and discussed segregation and Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry prior to this lesson).
oDistribute pictures depicting segregation- one to each student. Or ask students to bring pictures from magazines that demonstrate segregation or reverse segregation. Hang several larger pictures on the wall so students can use them for greater detail.
oStudents will examine their picture individually for five minutes, writing details on the worksheet.
Note: Newspapers and magazines are good sources of pictures for this lesson as well as the following online museum Web sites.
Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia at Ferris State http://www.ferris.edu/htmls/news/jimcrow/index.htm
Norman Rockwell Museum http://www.nrm.org/
Online Tours of the National Gallery of Art http://www.nga.gov/onlinetours/index.shtm
Web Museum, Paris http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/
Step 2. Objective (Overview of learning outcomes to pupils):
Students will use pictures about segregation related to their unit of study for Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry to:
odemonstrate knowledge of the characteristics of narrative writing by writing a narrative.
odemonstrate connections between images and words by using narrative writing to build understanding of content.
ouse detailed vocabulary in writing their text.
Step 3. Presentation (Input) of information:
Students will review the following characteristics of narrative writing as a whole class: developing plot, character and setting using specific detail and ordering events clearly using chronological order.
Direct students' attention to one picture on the board. As a whole class have students brainstorm possible events and characters this picture illustrates about segregation. Place the words or phrases under the following headings on the board as students share their ideas. Have students fill this information in on their worksheets.
Characters Setting Situation Feelings Vocabulary
Step 4. Modeling/Examples:
Use one character from the class table. Model writing a narrative on the board from the character's point of view by calling on students to give the details. Encourage students to describe the picture and to invent an original story related to the segregation illustrated in the picture. Decide as a class whether to tell the story that leads up to the picture, or to narrate the events that follow the picture. Write events in chronological order on the board as well as including the character's feelings and thoughts.
Step 5. Checking for Understanding:
Have students evaluate the story written on the board that they created by checking the blank before each element of narrative writing that they find in the class story about segregation.
1. _____ One character's point of view.
2. _____ Details about the character .
3. _____ Details about the setting.
4. _____ Details about the situation.
5. _____ The story was in the correct chronological order.
6. _____ The narrative contained feelings and thoughts.
Circulate as students work to check for understanding. Call on students to share their evaluation to be sure all students understand the content.
Step 6. Guided Practice:
Using the picture that they were assigned (or the one they brought from home) students will brainstorm possible events and characters by filling their ideas in the same table used in step 3:
Characters Setting Situation Feelings Vocabulary
Circulate to check for understanding.
Step 7. Independent Practice:
Have students choose one character from the table and write a narrative similar to the one modeled for them in step 4 from that character's point of view. Students will invent an original story related to the segregation illustrated in the picture. They will decide whether to tell the story that leads up to the picture, or to narrate the events that follow the picture. They will write events in chronological order and write about the character's feelings and thoughts.
Step 8. Closure:
Students will be evaluated using the same rubric used in step five, Checking for Understanding. Refer students to that evaluation rubric and ask students to give the example from the story previously written on the board to illustrate each area from the rubric. The stories can be assigned as homework or completed as class work as per the preference of the teacher.

Mystery Solved - Boy-King Tut's Magnificent Tomb - Exodus Miracles Affirmed!

The Magnificent Tomb of Boy King Tut - Fleshing Out the Biblical Exodus Story!
When the tomb of Tutankhamon was discovered in 1922 it caused a world-wide sensation, the splendor of its death mask of pure gold becoming a centerpiece display of the wealth and opulence of ancient Egypt. In addition, extensive in size, it contained much jewelry of turquoise, lapis lazuli, carnelian, also articles of gold, silver and bronze, plus numerous objects for the Pharaoh's journey of death. Egyptologists, however, puzzled over how Tutankhamon, but eighteen and only the heir to Egypt's throne, could be buried in so magnificent a tomb - the established tradition being that reigning Pharaohs built their own tombs during their lifetimes. The size, grandeur and ornamentation of each Pharaoh's tomb and the splendor of its contents, reflected upon the length and wealth of his sovereignty.
Dr. Lennart Moeller, medical doctor from Stockholm, but also an Egyptologist, archeologist, amateur deep sea diver, etc., developed a theory in his book "The Exodus Story" to explain the anomaly: Tutankhamun, first born son of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, dies in the Tenth Plague; later, Pharaoh, pursuing the fleeing Hebrews with his chariot army, drowns and his body is lost in the Red Sea; Amenhotep's empty tomb is therefore available while royal prince Tutankhamun is dead and needful of a burial place.
There is much extra-biblical evidence to support the theory.
The biblical "Ten Plagues" inflict Egypt
After Pharaoh repeatedly refuses to let the Hebrew slaves leave Egypt, Moses warns there will be plagues, first the Nile turning into blood, then frogs, lice, and finally locusts, darkness, and the tenth plague, death of all firstborn, including Prince Tutankhamun.
A highly important extra-biblical source of corroborative detail - to almost all the narratives of the ten-plagues plus Exodus events (as told in both the Bible and Passover-Haggadah), is the Ipuwer Papyrus Scroll. Found in Egypt in the early 19th century, it was translated and taken to the Leiden Museum in Holland where it is still kept. Described in several archaeological books of ancient Egypt, it is a papyrus scroll over twelve feet in length, called "Admonitions of Ipuwer", written during the 19th Dynasty by an Egyptian scribe-historian named Ipuwer. Interpreted in 1909, it depicts violent events in Egypt during the prior dynasty, which seem to parallel the Biblical plagues and the Exodus story - it describes a society in total crisis, providing essentially an eyewitness account of extreme and unusual occurrences:
"What the ancestors had foretold has happened", (Imhotep, the Egyptian vizier who saved Egypt from famine, 260 years earlier - thought to be the biblical Joseph - had foretold the exodus of the Hebrew slaves from Egypt.)
"The river is blood .. there is blood everywhere, no shortage of death .. many dead are buried in the river The first plague.. lacking are grain, charcoal .. great hunger and suffering".
"destruction of grain" The plague of locusts or hail.
"We don't know what has happened in the land."
"animals moaning and roaming freely".
"darkness" The ninth plague.
Deaths .. "children of princes, prisoners, brothers" The tenth plague, deaths of all the first-born.
"Gone is what yesterday has seen. See now, the land is deprived of kingship. See, all the ranks, they are not in their place .. like a herd that roams without a herdsman."
"Poor .. have become of wealth .. Gold and lapis lazuli, silver and malachite, carnelian and bronze are strung on to the necks of female slaves." .. and they requested from the Egyptians, silver and gold articles. And God made the Egyptians favor them and they granted their request." Exodus 12:35-36;
Additional extra-biblical confirmation of the Passover plagues are the mass burial graves of Egyptians, excavated at Tel ed Daba and elsewhere, indicating a panic, no individual burials.
The Exodus of the Hebrew slaves from Egypt
After the Tenth Plague, when Amenhotep III's first-born son, Tutankhamun dies in the tenth plague, Pharaoh finally orders Moses to take the Hebrews and leave Egypt. Later however, when he realizes the loss to Egypt of its slave people, also learning from his scouts that they are "trapped in the wilderness" (see article "Miracles, 3500 Years Ago"), he pursues them with his chariot army.
Going beyond the plagues, the Ipuwer scroll also corroborates the biblical description of the Exodus flight: "fire .. mounted up on high .. its burning goes forth against the enemies of the land" Bible: "by night in a pillar of fire".
Pharaoh and his Chariot army Drowns
Pharaoh, leading his chariot army, pursues the Hebrews to the Gulf of Aqaba, where recently discovered artifacts of coral-covered chariot wreckage plus bones of men and horses - all strewn along an eight mile undersea ridge between the Sinai Peninsula and Saudi Arabia - indicate they had drowned (see Ezine article, "Miracles, 3500 Years Ago").
Corroboration of these events comes from several sources - firstly, the Ipuwer scroll: "See, he who slept wifeless, found a noblewoman .." Written long afterwards, it obviously describes conditions after the loss of the Egyptian army, composed of upper-class males. Secondly, this also supports the request of the "royal" widow of Pharaoh, in a remarkable (clay cube) Amarna letter to the King of the Hittites- asking for one of his sons to become her new husband. It was sent to King Suppiluliumas, "He who was my husband is dead and I have no son. People say you have many sons. If you send me one of your sons he will become my husband .. repugnant to me to take one of my servants .. since most ancient times .. never happened before .. write to a foreign country .. humiliating to me and my country."
The loss of the mighty Egyptian chariot army seems to be supported by various items of evidence - Josephus, the Roman historian, quotes Monetho, an Egyptian priest, circa 300 BC, regarding the "easy" conquest of mighty Egypt by the Hyksos. (Egypt's loss of its entire chariot army at the Red Sea seems a corroborating explanation.)
Also, Tel-Amarna letters have been found from cities dependent on Egypt for protection from invaders, begging Pharaoh to send troops - saying "no help has come". Historians note that Egypt having lost its powerful chariot army was now incapable of sending military protection, and recovery of a demoralized Egypt would take a long time - per Dr. Moeller, it was "the beginning of the end of the 18th dynasty".
Tutankhamun is buried in the tomb of his Pharaoh father
With Pharaoh Amenhotep III drowned in a far-off sea and his magnificent tomb completely furnished but absent a body, but with the body of royal Prince Tutankhamun needing a burial place, the obvious apparently took place, the Egyptian court deciding that Tutankhamun would be buried in his father's tomb. The only personal item was the magnificent death-mask.
One direct reference is cited by Dr. Moeller, " .. young king .. buried in tomb originally prepared for 'Ay'."

"Poor .. have become of wealth .. Gold and lapis lazuli, silver and malachite, carnelian and bronze are strung on to the necks of female slaves." .. and they requested from the Egyptians, silver and gold articles. And God made the Egyptians favor them and they granted their request." Exodus 12:35-36;

A Review of Rockwell Sander Tools

A Rockwell sander is engineered for heavy use in many situations. The company makes both table mounted sanders and a portable orbital sander, designed for a wide range of sanding applications. Rockwell sander tools are often listed at the top of sander reviews, owing to their sturdy construction and versatile design. While these powerful tools are sometimes found in the home workshop, they are much more common in high production businesses where they are able to perform to their fullest potential.
Rockwell Spindle Sanders
The Rockwell spindle sander is stabilized by its die cast iron table. The 3.5 amp motor has more than enough energy to churn 58 oscillations per minute, which is a great speed wot achieve excellent sanding results without burning the material you are working with. In addition to the sander unit itself, this device comes with 21 accessories to help you get more done in less time than you ever have before.
Rockwell Belt / Disc Sanders
The Rockwell Belt.Disc sander is a combination of a 6 inch disc sander and a 4 inch wide by 36 inch long sanding belt. The belt table can be tilted from 0 to 90 degrees, and includes an adjustable belt tightening mechanism that makes changing belts as easy as one, two, three. This sander may be one of the best tabletop sanders you can buy, and is a popular models in trade and consumer reviews.
Rockwell Random Orbit Sanders
Rockwell random orbit sanders are relatively light weight, and feature the sanding power of a 2.7 amp motor. To help you keep the job clean and highly visible, Rockwell employs cyclonic dust removal technology similar to what is found in popular vacuum cleaners, moving the dust out of the field of work and into the special separator. For precision sanding, the unit includes a flat cast aluminum base, and it features a faster removal rate with lower vibration interference.
Understanding Rockwell Sander Reviews
Rockwell sander reviews are helpful in learning more about a prospective purchase. Compare the RPM or OPM with similar models made by other companies, and take note of how much work you can expect to get for your investment. Make sure to compare sanders equally, and take note of any special features that would make your sanding jobs a little easier to accomplish. Rockwell power tools are meant to work hard and long, but they may not be perfect for every need.

Rockwell Tools' Bladerunner - What's the Fuss?

Rockwell International launched it's Bladerunner power saw as a commercial product, and even produced an 8-minute infomercial for TV. This turned off many craftsmen, and led even more people to expect too much. So the Bladerunner got more than it's fair share of negative reviews. Yes, this saw has some short comings. But if you recognize it's limitations you're likely to find it's a great addition to your home shop.
What You Need to Know First
There's at least half a dozen different kinds of power saws. If you're a "home carpenter" you're probably most familiar with a hand-held jig saw. These look a little like a hand mixer, with a short blade at the front that rapidly goes up and down via a motor.
Other table- and floor-mount power saws have much more powerful motors and more rigidly mounted blades. A table-saw features a table and miter gauge like the Bladerunner, but it cuts with a hefty spinning circular blade. A band saw often stands 6' tall or more. It's blade is a continuous loop, held taut between two large pulleys, keeping the blade aligned. A scroll saw is most like the Bladerunner, but it's blade is attached at both ends and is narrower in order to make tighter curves.
Enter the Bladerunner
The Bladerunner is essentially a jigsaw mounted upside down under a table. The table includes guides for straight cuts, and supports whatever you're cutting for two-handed curve sawing. An overhead safety guard also doubles as a hold-down to help keep your work piece from vibrating.
With this arrangement, you can straight cuts like a table saw much better than you could with a hand-held jigsaw. And you can make curved cuts like a band saw, with both hands free to handle your work, and sharp curves approaching what you'd normally need a scroll saw for. But you won't have as much cutting power - band and table saws have motors of ½ horse power up to several horse power. Since the jigsaw blade is unattached at one end, you can get noticeable "blade wander" for thicker materials.
Within those limitations, there's a lot to like about this saw. It's particularly good at handling different materials because it's super-quick at changing blades. Changing, say, from a wood- to a metal-cutting blade can take quite a while on a table or band saw. In addition to wood and plastic, the Bladerunner can handle thin metal and even tiles. You can get much better curved and straight cuts than you could with a hand saw, though you do need to take it slow.
It's also quite portable, weighing in at just over 18 pounds and even has a carrying handle. Although many people prefer to just keep it on the bench top, this saw comes with wall mounting brackets. Better still, they're quick release you can easily move it to wherever you might need. As several saws in one, it can be a great space saver. With such a variety of cutting capabilities, the Rockwell Bladerunner can be a great choice for home projects.

By the end of his career, Norman Rockwell had helped set up a museum to house the best of his works close to his American home. It remains today and houses the largest collection of Norman Rockwell works, including prints, posters, covers, images, pictures and more. Norman Rockwell - A Popular American Artist

Norman Rockwell could possibly be the most recognizable North American painter. His artwork was actually a staple of many different products during the mid to late 20th century. For several years, we grew accustomed to seeing (and almost took for granted!) beautiful magazine covers and television advertisements that used his artwork during the Christmas holidays.
Where Could You Find His Art Work?
Not only did his artwork grace the inside and covers of magazines, but it also was used to sell products. (Do you remember Santa and his soda pop preference?!) Some of the magazines in which his artwork was featured are: Boy's Life (a Boy Scouts publication), The Saturday Evening Post, Life Magazine, and Look Magazine.
What Types of Scenes Did Norman Rockwell Paint?
Norman Rockwell's early artwork depicted the "mom and apple pie" type of feel-good scenes. They were scenes you could find in any small town throughout the United States... People from coast to coast could relate to Rockwell's every day scenes.
Did you know that Rockwell's art was used to sell war bonds during World War II? Rockwell joined the military (after going on a weight-gain diet so that he could qualify) during WW II but didn't see any action because it was deemed that he would be more valuable as an artist for the war effort. His paintings were also used on movie posters, Christmas cards, all sorts of items!
The Change of His Painting's Subject Matter
During the later part of Norman Rockwell's life, his artwork reflected his passion for civil rights and helping the poor. At his time, Rockwell was collaborating with Look Magazine. (He left The Saturday Evening Post when he decided he wanted to illustrate these very important issues rather than paint what he had previously been associated with.
Is There a Museum That Has All of His Work?
The Norman Rockwell Museum (in Stockbridge, Massachusetts) is the site of his personal collection of his paintings. If you visit the museum, you can see how his artwork evolved from happy scenes during the early part of his career to paintings with social commentaries in the later part of his life.
Rockwell's art can be found all over. His beautiful paintings are easily accessed, so that we don't have to travel all the way to Massachusetts in order to see his artwork. Rockwell received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977. This award is given to a very select few. His contribution to he USA is his artwork that serves as a reminder of how great this country is!

Norman Rockwell Prints

Normal Rockwell prints are a great example of American art from the 20th century. Rockwell was a key artist from this time as his prints remain very popular with the art public in the modern day. This article brings his best prints to your attention and also examines his life and career in detail.
Rockwell began as a magazine illustrator before achieving fame as a skilled oil painter. Later in his career he also used his skills to tackle key social issues of that period after his confidence as an artist had grown considerably. By the end of his career, Norman Rockwell had helped set up a museum to house the best of his works close to his American home. It remains today and houses the largest collection of Norman Rockwell works, including prints, posters, covers, images, pictures and more. Rockwell's original works are also frequently reproduced for fans as stretched canvases, giclee art prints and unframed posters.
The most impressive and well known art prints by Norman Rockwell included Scout at Ship's Wheel, Santa and Scouts in Snow, Boy and Baby Carriage, Golden Rule, The Problem We All Live With, Southern Justice (Murder in Mississippi),Circus Barker and Strongman, Doctor and Doll, The Four Freedoms, Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Worship, Freedom from Want, Breaking Home Ties, The Marriage License, The Scoutmaster, The Runaway, Triple Self-Portrait, New Kids in the Neighborhood, Russian Schoolroom, The Rookie and Spirit of 76.
To conclude it is clear that Norman Rockwell prints and reproductions will remain popular across America for many years to come thanks to his incredible career in which he painted many famous celebrities and US presidents as well as achieving success through illustration early in his career. The two mediums of oil paintings and illustrations complement each other well and offer different tastes something that they will like.
